Client Log for Therapists
A private, local-first client notebook for therapists who want to keep session notes without cloud services.
The problem with most note-taking tools
Many therapists keep client notes in Word files, physical notebooks, or cloud tools that were never designed for private session tracking.
CRMs are built for sales. Medical software is heavy and expensive. And general-purpose cloud tools — even when compliant — introduce concerns about data ownership, long-term access, and what happens if the service shuts down.
For solo practitioners working with a small number of clients, none of those options feel right.
What to look for in a private session notes tool
For therapists working independently, the right tool usually checks a few things:
- No cloud storage of client data
- No account creation required
- Local storage — data stays on your device
- Simple to use after a session, not before
- Export capability for archiving or printing
- No subscription, no lock-in
Why local-first matters for session notes
A local-first tool keeps client notes entirely on your device. No accounts. No servers. No background syncing to infrastructure you don't control.
The data belongs to you — and stays that way. Even if the app is deleted, data is not lost to a third party: it was never there.
The trade-off is that local storage requires a manual export habit. Client Log supports JSON, HTML, and ZIP exports (Pro) so your data is always portable.
How Client Log fits a therapy practice
Client Log works as a simple client journal:
- One timeline of notes per client
- Simple client statuses (Active, Waiting, Archived)
- Optional photo per note (Pro) — useful for documents or diagrams
- Export at any time for printing or archiving
- No analytics, no tracking, no cloud
The workflow is minimal: open the app after a session, write a note, close it. That's the entire habit.
What Client Log does not do
- No cloud sync across devices
- No shared team workspace
- No patient portal or client-facing features
- No billing, scheduling, or practice management
- No reminders or follow-up automation
Client Log is a private notebook. It is not medical software and does not claim compliance with any specific regulation (HIPAA, GDPR, etc.). You are responsible for ensuring your workflow meets your professional and legal obligations. When in doubt, consult a qualified professional in your jurisdiction.
Who it is designed for
Client Log is built for solo practitioners working with a small number of clients — roughly 5 to 50 active. It is not designed for group practices, multi-therapist clinics, or workflows that require team coordination.
If you work alone and want a quiet, private place to write session notes — without accounts, dashboards, or software to maintain — it may be a good fit.
Status
Client Log is currently being prepared for iOS and Android.
